HELLO, I'M GIOVANNA!
As a first-generation, low-income Latina pursuing a career in design, my journey is shaped by a blend of resilience, creativity, and a commitment to inclusive design. Recognizing the power of blending art and science, I discovered my passion for design during a transformative engineering class at Stanford the summer before my senior year of high school. This class emphasized using technology to create beautiful, sustainable products that address real-world problems. I realized that the most successful products seamlessly integrate art and science, inspiring me to major in design.
I've experienced firsthand what it's like to feel unheard and unseen, and this awareness fuels my dedication to inclusive design. I use empathy and storytelling as tools to create products that meet user needs and resonate with diverse experiences. My goal as a UI/UX designer is to craft functional but also simple, beautiful, and well-designed products, ensuring that users continue to engage with them.
Diverse perspectives yield the best designs. Product managers and designers should recognize that what's best for the user won't necessarily align with their lived experiences. I bring a unique perspective in weaving together my background as a first-generation, low-income Latina and my passion for design. As a UI/UX designer, I am poised to contribute to a world where design transcends boundaries and speaks to the diverse needs of its users.
In college, I engaged in various projects that significantly enriched my understanding of communication dynamics within the industry. Emphasizing the importance of constant dialogue within project teams, these experiences underscored the significance of regular updates and collaborative discussions to outline the next steps effectively. Additionally, I garnered valuable insights into the strategic use of a company's existing design system. This involved adeptly utilizing established frameworks and consistently seeking clarification through proactive questioning to ensure a clear and accurate understanding of project requirements. I graduated in one of the most challenging job markets for new college graduates. Although making ends meet took priority, I haven't let the lack of jobs stop me from honing my skills.
